Machine-to-machine communication inside modern warehouse facility
Internet of Things (IoT) is not a new advent anymore, it is the reality of modern life and business. Designed to serve customers in the most convenient way, the link between devices are aimed to minimize a human involvement and increase the speed of operation. And that is what logistics operation has taken and successfully implement in their day-to-day activities.
Speaking about air cargo terminals and high bay warehouses, the IT-infrastructure is fully based on the principles of IoT, it is the IoT itself. Taking into consideration the risk of injuries, high cost of breakdown, such machines as Elevating Transfer Vehicle (ETV) and Automated Storage and Retrieval System are built to speed up and effectively operate the material flow inside the warehouse. For example, specifically designed for the efficient Storage and Retrieval of ULDs and Air Cargo Pallets. The ETV functions are to store all types of ULDs and Pallets on multiple levels using friction driven or motorized roller decks with a capacity of up to 14,000 kg. The storage, transfer, sorting and retrieval of cargo between the warehouse and the airside is fully automated with interfaces to the airline and WMS.
All vehicle movements are guided by the Inventory Control System with a possibility of operator override manual mode. The ETV is built on a central rail system between the high-bay storage aisles, with a lifting platform designed for 10, 15 and 20ft powered roller decks with an operator cabin.
ETV, TV, Roller decks and trucks – together showcase an example of IoT cooperation. Handling the cargo from the storage, then transporting it with the help of TV and roller decks, and finally loaded by trucks for further in-city logistics. Isn’t it magnificent?
